AP High Court on Monday directed film actors Mohan Babu and Brahmanandam to revert their 'Padma Shri' awards to the Government of India for misusing them in the movie 'Denikaina Ready'.
BJP senior leader N Indraseena Reddy filed a petition in High Court seeking direction to the Centre recommending annulment of Padma Shri award presented to Mohan Babu and Brahmanandam in the year 2007 and 2009 respectively for misusing them. The petitioner stressed as per Article 18(1) of the Constitution, National Award didn't amount a title and can't be used as a suffix or preix. He also pointed out Central Bard of Film Certiication (CBFC) granted certificate to 'Denikaina Ready' despite have the names of two actors carried 'Padma Shri' as prefix in the title cards.
High Court raised objection for using 'Padma Shri' in title cards in a wrong way (as if its their surname) and delivered the judgement in favour of the petitioner. This will be a big lesson for the actors who misuse the honorary award.
